This is a teaching Brent intended to give last year at our first deeper-life. The timing wasn't right. Given our present focus of teaching, he sensed God was saying that now was the time!

In this teaching, Brent looks at some of the key marks of the coming Messiah that the prophet Isaiah spoke of. He then looks at the ministry of Jesus and reveals how Jesus fulfilled Isaiah's words in his own life.

While walking looking at Isaiah and Jesus it becomes clear that the Messiah would be concerned about bringing salvation and justice in four key ways:

** deliverance of the poor and powerless from the economic deprivation of the greedy

** lifting the foot of the domineering power off the oppressed

** establishing peace and nonviolence

** restoring the outcasts, the nations, the Gentiles, the exiles, and the refugees to community

In other-words: As the messiah of God's kingdom, Jesus fulfilled the expectations of Isaiah. Part of this fulfillment involved his bringing about justice in the above four ways. To link to the earlier talks, it was through these four activities that Jesus participated in bringing in the reign of God on earth as it was in heaven. In these things, Jesus was about the grand work of the messiah - defeating the enemies of God and drawing the exiles and outsiders home to his kingdom and its banquet table.

Question: what would it look like for the church today to follow the messiah in his work?
