24/7?

Hi friends... We were talking at our last council meeting about this upcoming Fall and 24/7? The basic gist of the conversation went like this? We have to keep prayer as a central part of what we do as a community. We also think it is important to set a side a "season" for concentrated prayer as a community - seeking the heart of God for our city and our churches. However, none of us had a strong sense that we were to do the "24-7" thing this fall. Instead, we had this idea... what if we set aside 40 days of prayer again (beginning this year on September 22 in order to end in time for our Fall Retreat which begins on November 14), except rather than doing 24-7, we instead have a gathering every evening for anyone that is interested. Each night, or for that matter some could be each morning "pre-work", someone would agree to be the "host" for the gathering and he or she could lead a time of prayer or worship, or meditation or listening prayer, or.... This way, this season of prayer could be much more "corporate" than in prior years. And, oh yes, we would open the prayer room every day for anyone that might be interested in using it for quiet prayer. So, that is the idea we were thinking through, but we are just a small sampling of voices from our community? What do the rest of you think? Do you feel, "no, we need to do 24/7"? Do you have another idea? Do you like the idea mentioned above? Do you sense the Spirit saying anything about this that is important for us to hear? Please throw out your comments below. Or, if you have something to share that is more private - send me an e-mail. Thanks for you input everyone. 24/7?Submitted by Ben on Wed, 2008-08-27 20:45.
