Hi Everyone. I received this last week from Mary-Lee Bouma, our speaker at last years retreat. She asked if I would pass it along. Perhaps some of you would be interested in attending one of the upcoming silent rallies. Hey, all Some of you may have heard of the Buying Sex Is Not A Sport campaign which was launched in May by the anti-human trafficking organization REED (Resist Exploitation Embrace Dignity) and its local allies. www.embracedignity.org I've been involved with REED for a year and half as volunteer and a board member. This campaign specifically addresses the male demand for paid sexual access to the bodies of women and children. Because the sex industry is based on a market-based model of supply and demand, having the Olympics here raises the local demand. During the Olympics I invite you to join with other Jesus-followers, former & current prostitutes, academics, and feminists in coming together to stand in solidarity with and for exploited women. At the BSNS website you can see that we will be gathering on at least 6 more occasions in the next 10 days, in public settings, as a silent witness against the demand to pay for sex. Please check out the campaign and considering joining us. www.buyingsexisnotasport.com Note that you will have to buy or borrow a BSNS t-shirt. They will be for sale at the meet-up locations before each of the upcoming direct actions. Any questions, don't hesitate to email me here or at mary-lee@embracedignity.org In compassion and for justice, |
