Crafted Prayer

[ ]

Yesterday, I found myself humming the song that begins “They that wait on the Lord will renew their strength…” (title?). As I contemplated how the 40 days of prayer can be categorized as a waiting period, it struck me that the song transitions to running. “I will run with you”.

Some time ago I read the book “Crafted Prayer” by Graham Cooke. It addresses the tendency to offer a myriad of varying prayers and suggests instead to first listen and hear what God desires for us to pray and then pray that diligently.

As I started going to the prayer room I was reminded of this. I was eager to launch into prayer, I think unwittingly attempting to achieve some undefined prayer per minute (PPM) objective. It IS a prayer room, after all! I heard God say WAIT! SEEK MY FACE! As I struggled with the temptation to complete a dozen prayers I found myself desiring to hear just one word. That will be my prayer.
