True Spirituality is not a diversion from life - - - - - - --

I think I'm about to read a really good book. Already my mind is fully awake [and for me at 8:30pm, this is a feat.] and my spirit was stirring.

Seven Days of Faith by Paul Stevens.

First quotes and thoughts:
Eugene Peterson gives the forward to the book by explaining how we find ourselves relegated to the identity of "layperson" when it comes to being a Christian. As if there was such a thing! Then a statement about "following Jesus or following Jesus-experts" and I'm hooked.

I want to practice an every day faith that is ok with being every day. A spirituality that effects my complete outlook and behaviour while allowing me full participation in the world around me - I'm not going to be called into a monastic life anytime soon. Although a few days with no voices and a library and long communions sounds nice...I'd miss my family.

Then a quote from the author in the Intro.
"Spirituality is about roots, about living deeply grounded, non superficial lives, about the possibility of holiness for ordinary people in the thick of life, right in the hectic middle and not just the peaceful perimeter."

That is all for now - Happy New Year friends -
