CROWS, not sparows

I have been spending the week fine tuning a pack of mediations for the Lent period which begin in the middle of February .

I was reading the passage about the feeding the of the birds, and how this is the responsiblity of our heavenly FATHER Mt 6: 26 ...yet YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER feeds them.

A small tap on my conscience, and I remembered I have a bundle of bread in the cupboard which I have not eaten this week, and Ruth being in Manitoba would have put it in the freezer, which I should feed the birds.

I "HATE" crows, but I have been feeding them bread all summer out under the large Norfolk pine
at the front of the driveway. The rain which is daily, does not touch the ground, so the crusts of
bread never get wet. When I first went to feed crows they would gather in a large group and mock me,
because I had always thrown stones at them, in total disgust.

so I jumped up and walked out into the rain to the front yard. NO CROWS IN SIGHT.
I broke the bread into smaller pieces. when I finished, a lone crow swooped in. He had been watching,
and I realized this is the crow that hangs out at our house during the day. They seem to stake out a property and hang around till just before sunset when they all head to Burnaby for the evening gospel rally.

The crow was absolutely quiet, I assume so as not to alert all the others, and had a quiet feast.

Twenty minutes later, the same crow landed on my new fence, looked me straight in the eye
and shook his head up and down, saying thank-you. CAW CAW

That he knew where I lived was amazing
in that we have moved into our basement suite, and the crow knew me from the 2nd floor upstairs bedroom window where every morning early he would laugh himself sick about the color of my pyjamas.

then I remembered the verse:
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor reap, or gather into barns,
yet YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER, feeds them.

Funny!

I also hate crows. When we see God face to face, some people will ask God about why he created flees - I'll ask him about why he created crows. I know, I know - there is a technical answer about the "web of life" and all that. I know that they serve an important "scavenger" role in our ecosystem. But the fact is they could have done all that important work without being so irksome. They are spooky to look at, they have an annoying call, and they scare away all the other birds that are smaller and kinder.

Bullies of the backyard.

I know that wasn't your point... but I felt the need to comment. Do I hear an amen? Or, am I missing something? I'm happy to have my view of crows redeemed.

And as for you and your pyjamas being laughed at - that's funny!
