the "joy" of simplechurch

On Saturday, we started in on Colossians. We had a guest, and so we asked how we should handle the evening. We chose to do the lesson first, and eat after. Ruth began by introducing us to the City of Colossae which we had visited two years ago. Then at the end of her intro she brought out three glass bowls. One filled with ice and cold water (represents Colossae, with the ice mountain streams ) one with steaming hot water ( Hieropolis: like Harrison Hot springs, a resort for Roman warriors, and a bowl of lukewarm water for Laodicia, which got it's water by aquaduct from Heiropolis, and by the time it travelled the 11 miles it was luke warm. then she read the passage in Revelations where JESUS asks us to either hot or cold but not luke warm. In the discussion it came out from others that if we do nothing with the hot or cold, eventually both become luke warm. So whether we have a hot/healing/evangelistic gifting for the LORD or a cold/soothing/refreshing gifting, both will become lukewarm if not used. What a HOLY SPIRIT moment!
and it only happens when you chew on the verses in a group setting where you trust each other.

then during communion, the person sharing the communion broke into tears, as the elements were so spiritually HOLY, and bring renewal in the sharing of the bread and the wine. Again, I was moved by the humble call to "give it your all".

we only studied 4 verses, but the time was precious.
the time of prayer and then the food/fellowship were very sumptuous.

lukewarm - can I reheat in the micro?

That sounded so cool! I liked the feeling of water, getting another sense to really 'get' what you're talking about. Becoming lukewarm.....it sure happens fast to my coffee in the morning!

Thanks for the window into your gathering. Thanks to all the Mount Seymour church people for pressing in and loving each other. Way to go!

Thanks also to Sig and Ruth for the example they are to all of us. Well done!

i like it.

thanks for sharing Sig! that's encouraging and sweet. It's always delightful when God blesses us with nuggets of truth in even a few verses.
