Operation Christmas Child Details
Hey everyone! I just wanted to pass along a few details about participating in Operation Christmas Child this year.
This is a really tangible way to share God’s love with children in need so it would be awesome if everyone participated. If each church could designate one person who is in charge of the shoeboxes for their church (picking up some shoeboxes for their church and ensuring that they get dropped off before November 10th (see details below) and let me know (tkherriot@hotmail.com) who that person is that would be great.
I will be bringing a bunch of brochures and shoeboxes to the City-Wide Celebration this Sunday, October 7th so feel free to take as many as you like or use shoeboxes that you have at home. If it turns out that you need more shoeboxes just let me know.
A few things to keep in mind:
1. A great alternative to regular shoeboxes is clear Rubbermaid containers that are roughly the size of shoeboxes. They can be re-used by the children or their parents.
2. Be sure to look over the brochure or on the Samaritan’s Purse website (www.samaritanspurse.ca/occ/) for gift ideas and guidelines on what not to include before going shopping.
3. Most of the details you will need are in the brochure or on the website, but feel free to contact me if you still have questions.
4. Samaritan’s Purse is emphasizing packing “well rounded” shoeboxes this year so as much as possible try and include some school supplies, toys and hygiene items.
5. Shoeboxes for boys ages 10-14 and 2-4 are needed most.
6. Our shoeboxes will be going to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
DEADLINE: The last Sunday to assemble your shoeboxes is November 4th. You can drop off your shoeboxes at North Shore Alliance Church on November 4th during the services or between 9am and 4pm on November 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th. If those dates and times don’t work for you, contact Michiel and Brenda Smit (mbasmit@telus.net) for an appointment on November 10th or you can drop them off at a Safeway store. If you need more shoeboxes you can let me know or contact Michiel and Brenda.
