Two things for you today to spur you along.

Seek His Face

First, yesterday as the kids were outside playing I felt a pang of sadness. I was remembering our friend Rob and all he invested in us. His gentle urgings for us to respond to the stirrings in our souls; these inwards calls to seek God’s face.  Rob often cited Psalm 27: “My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’”.  He reminded us that God made us this way, that we were made to seek him.

I’ve been feeling this urging lately.  A quiet hunger in my soul. A longing to return again to my first love.  Have you been feeling this way?  I sense that you have been.  That there’s a growing longing in your hearts for more of him.  That’s a good thing.  Reach out for him and find him.  He’s not far from you.

God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.' Acts 17:27-28

In my pangs and longings I did a quick search for any online teachings of Rob’s and I came across his testimony, delivered at CapChurch just this past summer. It’s short and I urge you to take the time to listen in.  I guarantee you will be encouraged in your seeking.

With Every Breath

Second, this morning I read the Psalm (Psalm 148) assigned in the Lectionary for this Sunday.  It reminded me of the song posted below.

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the skies.
