As we transition back to normal, and public restrictions lift, we are again able to meet together this summer in backyards and parks for house church. To help with this, we are preparing the guides and liturgies below.
Liturgy | The Work of the People
Did you know that's what the word means? The word liturgy comes from the ancient Greek (Greek: λειτουργία), leitourgia, and it literally means "work for the people." It is a blending of the two words "litos ergos" or "public service."
The idea is that this is the "work" we do. The liturgy, these "ancient rhythms," are the work we do. They are the service we offer to each other and the Lord. It's the way we participate in worship!

This Week: Eat my Flesh
In last week's reading, we were invited by Jesus to do the work that leads to the breed of life and he tells us that this work is to “believe.” In this week's reading, things get downright weird. Jesus tells the crowd, now grumbling, that they must eat his flesh and drink his blood. Predictably, for many of his disciples, this ends up being the end of the road. They just can’t go any further.
What does this scene conjure in you? What was Jesus talking about? How would you have responded? How are you responding today? Is your faith to believe increasing, or are you feeling the urge to join with the crowd who leaves?
