Hello friends,

I wanted to let you all know that yesterday, April 6th, Rob Des Cotes went to be with Jesus. I'm confident it was a moment of great delight for him. Rob had spent his life intimatly seeking the friendship of Jesus. The one he had seen through a glass dimly, he now saw face to face.

We were priviledged to know Rob as he served as our spiritual director for the past three years. The more we got to know him the more we loved him.  This was a man who demonstrated in bodly form what happens to a person when they seek Jesus. He was humble, wise and gentle. Above all he was filled with love. His countenance radiated Jesus.

On our first retreat with him we learned that Rob was dying.  He told us of his cancer, that he didn't know how long he had to live, but that he knew he wanted to spend his remaining days helping people to know Jesus. As time elapsed it seems this desire only increased. There was no frothy furvor though, just a gentle determination to let people in on the secret he had come to discover.  Namely, that in the quiet place of prayer Jesus could be found and that our lives could there be transformed by him.

I'm reading presntly Rob's latest book, "Strength to Strength: Meditations for Spiritual Direction".  The scripture for today's reading is the one I posted in the picture above.  Perhaps because of his cancer, eternity was all the more present in Rob's heart.  It seemed that in the time between each of our meetings the quietness of his soul increased but so too did his longing for heaven.  Yesterday, the desire of Rob's heart was fulfilled.

Well done, Rob.  We're really going to miss you. Thanks for all you taught us and loved us with.

We'll see you soon.
